6 SEO tips to create a Search engine Friendly content.

By elie On December 20, 2009 Under Blogging, Featured posts, How to's, SEO

Here are steps you want to consider when creating an SEO friendly content and generate more passive traffic to your website.

Create a search engine friendly url

by default, wordpress URLs looks like  “www.elie-palima.com/?p=123″ . we want search engines to figure out in a snap what is your article about. to do this,

Login to your wordpress  control panel (www.example.com/wp-admin). I assume you are using wordpress by now, They are the best blogging platform out there! ;) nwei, click on settings>>Permalinks.

then you’ll be able to see this page:

permalink

Choose “custom structure” and enter /%postname%/ exactly like whats written on the image above. this makes your link shorter and more usable/understandable.

for example, instead of your permalink being like (www.elie-palima.com/2009/12/20/sample-post) it will be “www.elie-palima.com/sample-post”.

Make your Domain name your Home page

login wour wordpress account, click on settings tab and you’ll see this page:

wordpress

maybe your blog looks like this.. (www.yoursite.com/blog) if that’s the case, make your domain your home page.. make sure it’s “www.yoursite.com” by default.

Check your blog title and tagline

Make sure you include your Main keyword on your blog title and tag line. in my case, I’m targeting the keyword “Make Money Online” so my blog title is “Make Money Online with teenage dad” and I also included on my tagline the keywords “make money online”, “how to make money online” and other related keywords for my blog.

Set up your preferred domain

most websites can be reached by two different addresses. one address has a “www” in it (http://www.elie-palima.com/) and the other one has www missing.(http://elie-palima.com). When we talk about SEO, it’s advisable to use one domain format and stick with it. because when you have the two formats this means google will give you 2 different Page rank for 2 urls that point to the same page.

the easiest way to set up your preferred domain is by logging in/signing up for google webmastertools. login to google webmastertools. (add your site if you still haven’t done so).

webmastertool

notice that I have added the two domains, (www.elie-palima.com ) and (elie-palima.com)  Make sure to verify both sites.

setup your preferred domain by choosing “thedomain>>site configuration>> settings” which will bring you to the next page.

preferreddomain

do these steps on the two domains you added.

Optimize your posts by installing a reliable SEO plugin

the two plugin I have in mind are All in one SEO and the Platinum SEO pack. however I find Platinum SEO more effective. don’t worry if you already have all in one SEO installed, Platinum SEO will automatically transfer the post you optimized already while you were using all in one SEO.

Update RSS services. *ping*

whenever you make a new post, ping services and RSS services will be notified and they will “crawl” your content. which will bring you instant traffic/visitors. login to wp-admin, settings>>writing>> scroll down to the page and you’ll see this:

ping

I’ve compiled a list of ping services. make sure you put these in there.
